Preparing for your shoot
A practical guide to preparing for a portrait session with Daniela: clothing, posing, makeup and what to bring.
A little preparation can help you arrive feeling comfortable. You do not need to be a model or get everything right. Bring what feels like you, and I will guide you through the shoot.
Try a few poses
Spend a little time in front of a mirror. Try different angles and expressions, and notice what feels natural. This is a way to become familiar with the camera, not a test you need to pass.
Small details and rest
Take care of the grooming details you want visible in your photographs, including your nails and hair. For a nude session, an even skin tone and loose clothing can help avoid visible strap marks. We can talk through these details beforehand.
Try to sleep well the night before. Feeling rested makes it easier to settle into the shoot.
Choose clothes you love
Bring two outfits you enjoy wearing. I suggest avoiding plain black for this style of shoot. Scarves, sarongs, lace, jewellery, flowers and feathers can add variety, but only bring props you like and feel comfortable using.
Keep makeup comfortable
Light makeup can work well. If you prefer little or no makeup, bring a transparent matte powder and a brush if you would like to reduce shine. Any tinted makeup should match your skin tone. If a makeup artist is involved, check how they would like you to arrive.
What to bring
- Two outfits, underwear you feel good in, a sarong or kimono and a light robe.
- Hair ties, pins, a brush or comb.
- Skin cleanser, moisturiser, body lotion, powder and brush, cotton balls or swabs.
- A mirror, jewellery and any favourite accessories or props.
- Water and snacks. In a tropical location, bring mosquito repellent.
A little nervous is normal
You can arrive with nerves and still enjoy the experience. We have time to find a comfortable rhythm, try things and laugh together. You do not need to arrive feeling perfectly confident.
